Yaqeen coast to 3-1 win over Ikhlas Nov 30, 2018
by Fahad Mohammad

The first game of the night did not carry with it the same magnitude of playoff implications as compared to the other match-ups but the outcome was nonetheless important to each team.  Yaqeen having already secured a top 2 spot and a bye into the semi-finals was looking to secure the #1 overall ranking with a win while Ikhlas was trying to salvage their first win and finish off a disappointing season on a positive note.

Ikhlas was short benched, with just over one full line in attendance for this game but they played with pride.  They had some early chances on Yaqeen, getting behind the defense on a couple of occasions but the goalie was able to make the saves.  Yaqeen responded with a few in-close chances of their own but Kaunai Saiyed, who's had a strong season as he has kept his team in it for a lot of close games, turned aside anything Yaqeen could throw at him.

Eventually the Yaqeen offense proved to be a handful as Amir Multani and Suleman Bhatti scored in the first and second periods respectively to give Yaqeen a 2-0 lead. They each scored their 7th goals and finished the season in a 3-way tie with Yusuf Ingar for the goal scoring lead.

Talib Contractor put this game away late in the second period. As he has done all season, he causes havoc around the net area, fighting for rebounds and he is being rewarded lately having scored in back-to-back games.

Salman Syed was able to break Fahad's shutout by beating him with a Slapper from the left cirlce but it was too little too late as Yaqeen won this game 3-1. Yaqeen will look to prepare for the playoffs while Ikhlas is left wondering how this season got away from them.
