Shukr battles to a 1-1 draw with Ridha Mar 6, 2018
by Maaz Haq

The 2nd game of the day had different storylines coming into it for the 2 teams. Shukr, while fighting for the top spot in the Mecca conference, hadn’t scored in their previous 2 games relying heavily on the great goaltending of Fahad Mohammad. Ridha was tied for 4th place in the Medina conference, and wanted desperately to jump Ihsan into a playoff spot.

The game started with Ridha showing off their speed and passing ability, as they seemed a step ahead of Shukr’s pace. Shukr would eventually find their game, but not before Zaqi Ahmed scored on a broken play, giving Ridha the important first goal of the game. Ridha would end the 1st half on the power-play, however Shukr killed it off and gained some momentum heading into the 2nd half.

The start of the 2nd half saw Shukr with their first power-play of the game. Humaiz Shahid, the leading goal-scorer for Shukr, would score off a rebound ending his team’s goalless drought at just over 76 minutes! Both teams traded chances to end the game, however with the 2 best goalies in the league  going head-to-head, and neither willing to budge, the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
