Haya gets equalizer late against Yaqeen Feb 20, 2018
by Humza Ali

The first game of the night was a showdown between Yaqeen and Haya. Yaqeen had come off a dominant win over Ikhlas the game prior, while Haya narrowly beat Ihsan. Both of these teams sat in the middle of the pack and a win for either would’ve vaulted them to the top of the overall standings. Both teams were somewhat short benched with Haya missing key defencemen, and Yaqeen missing its star forward Idrees Deen.

The game began with both teams trading a few scoring chances each. Late in the first period, Emmad Khawaja scored a crucial goal assisted by Nadeem Faqiri and Naiem Malik to give Yaqeen a 1-0 edge. Early in the second period, Yasser Habib scored on the powerplay for Haya with an excellent shot from the point against a penalty kill that was missing its key defencemen; Naiem Malik (who was in the box). The remainder of the second period was a mix of countless scoring chances for both sides, but stellar goaltending from Yassir Hussain (Yaqeen) and Khalid Mufti (Haya) kept the game at a 1-1 standstill.
