Shukr grinds out win over Haya Nov 14, 2017
by Samad Hamidi

This game lived above its hype.  Shukr coming off a neat one sided win against The mighty Ikhlas and Haya against a dominant performance against Yaqeen. The battle between shukr and haya can be compared to Operation Barbarossa in ww2 when the German army attacked the red army catching them by surprise. In this case it was the haya making relentless attacks against the red army (Shukr) in the opening 5 minutes of the game securing a 1-0 lead with Furqan scoring of a terrific play from Salman Alvi’s feed. In the next four minutes, Waqar khan went in killer mode but was unable to beat Shukr’s strong defenses lead by the general Nauman Abbasi and his defensive corps Farhan Siddique, Samad Hamidi, Munaf Natalia and Dr Farhan Siddiqui. The lead was short lived for Haya as the red army countered with its secret weapon Dawood Ciombar with some excellent power play ball movement via Hamza Ali, Nauman Abbasi and Ibrahim Hindy.  The first period ended 1-1 with both goalies yasir (substituting for Khalid Mufti) and kunain keeping their teams in the contest with spectacular saves in a fast paced game.

As the second period started, Haya’s Defensive weakness started to look more visible in the absence of Salman Khalid and when Junaid Mohammed was off.  This was highly noted by Shukrs high command Nauman Abbasi who masterminded counter attacks with Kashif and Hamza securing an early two goal lead. Both goals were not Kunains fault and came off a defensive lapse and one off a bad line change which resulted in Shukr snipper Kashif Taqiuddi’s brilliant snap shot set up by yours truely Ibrahim Hindy.  In the next 6-8 minutes, haya went further into defensive mode with both teams taking penalties on and off. As the game boiled down towards the end, haya finally broke the ‘enigma code’ with Jawad Majeed scoring off a point shot with under 2 mins after some excellent work by Boom Boom Khan and Furqan in putting some deep pressure on Shukrs Defence. However the lead was stretched back to two goals with an empty net goal by humza a few seconds later. Subsequently, Waqar added a goal with just 25 seconds left again after the ball bounced off one of Shukrs players and ended in Shukrs net.  However, General Nauman Abbasi calmed the ship down and was able to keep the ball back in Haya’s defensive zone with the game ending 4-3 in Shukrs favour.  Towards the end of the game., there were some unusual developments which led to some level of escalation  between both teams but the matter was quickly sorted out.
