The Wheels Come Off in the 2nd Half Jan 22, 2009
by Jawwad Butt

Coming into this game, Bayyina had already played an earlier game where they were able to defeat Tamjeed to advance to the semi-finals. It would be interesting to see if fatigue would become a factor for Bayyina down the stretch. The game started with Asr looking to take early control of the game. Asr shared the ball on offense and played good team defence. Bayyina on the other hand was not on top of their game. They were not able to score very comfortably like they had in the previous game. Despite the sloppy play from Bayyina, they had managed to keep the game close at the end of the first half. The first half ended with Asr leading Bayyina by only 3 points, 19-16.

The second half started with Asr taking total control of the game as they ran Bayyina out of the gym. Unfortunately for Bayyina, the wheels came off and they were not able to keep up with Asr. Another key to Bayyina’s loss may have been the injury of Samer Charab who injured his ankle in the earlier game that Bayyina played and was unavailable for the game against Asr. In the end Asr was able to blowout Bayyina by a final score of 52-26. Mishaal Ahmed had 12 points in the loss while Sufian Hamid had 11 and Nael Salah Eddin and Yasir Riaz had 9 points each for Asr.
