Sharh Dashes Kawthar's Hopes Feb 28, 2006
by Teepu Khawja

Regardless of the fact that Kawthar was probably already tired, it was safe to say that not many ppl gave them a chance against Sharh, who entered this game on a 6 game winning streak and lead the league in scoring at 66.3 ppg (while Kawthar averaged just 48.6 ppg). Anyone could excuse Kawthar if they just crumpled and laid down for this game after earning a tough win against Takathur just an hour before this game began. The fact that this game was so close and Kawthar was in it almost to the end is a testament to their determination and should go along way to removing the notion others may have towards them as a "fluke" team.

The first half ended with both teams tied at 25, but Kawthar walking off as if they were up. They definitely could not be disappointed with this result, especially since the last time these 2 teams met, Sharh rolled over with a 70-57 victory. Sharh walked off the court uncharacteristically dishevelled, laying blame to their inability to dominate towards the refs. In the 2nd half Sharh decided to press and try and take advantage of Kawthar's ball handlers, and saw alot of success in this strategy, leading to many steals and easy fast break points. In the end, Kawthar's Martin played a typical strong game ending with a line of 22 and 12, but it wasnt enough to balance out the well balanced scoring attack of Sharh who also benefitted from the return of Rajko Tanovic from a broken leg. Kawthar will regroup and try again next season while Sharh advances to the finals and awaits the winner of Humazah vs Nasr.
