Al-Fil storms out to big lead and rolls to easy win Jan 21, 2008
by Zuhair Fancy

When these teams met in the regular season, Al-Fil won by a 63-48 final score after they roared out to a 40-19 first half lead so Quraysh would need to keep the game close early and prevent Al-Fil from getting transition baskets.

Whatever game plan that Quraysh had drawn up, it surely could not have predicted the onslaught that they faced from Al-Fil. Al-Fil came out blazing as they hit deep three pointers and passed the ball to players cutting through the lane for easy baskets. Quraysh was forced to call a timeout with 15:39 left in the half and down 11-0. The stoppage did not help as Al-Fil had built a 22-0 lead before Quraysh finally got a basket after nine minutes of play. Quraysh finally seemed to get something going and put some points up but were not able to cut into the Al-Fil lead by much. At the half Al-Fil was up 31-14.

Al-Fil was led by Abdulla Abda with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 huge blocks that made Quraysh think twice about driving the lane. Greg Hamilton added 9 points and 4 rebounds for Al-Fil while Quraysh was led by Tosin Agboulaje with 8 points.

The second half saw Al-Fil continue to dominate as they got Hadi Yousufi involved who got multiple fast break baskets. Quraysh continued to try and battle to keep it close but were unable to finish their chances and did not seem to be on the same page defensively which lead to multiple breakdowns.

Al-Fil coasted to an easy 69-41 win and will advance to the East League Finals. Al-Fil was led by Abda with 12 points, 13 rebounds while Hamilton added 20 points and Yousufi finished with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Quraysh was led by Agboulaje with 14 points.

Al-Fil will now face Nasr in the finals on Super Sunday. When they met earlier in the regular season it was Nasr winning by a 59-49 final score.
