One Last Chance at Redemption (Part 2) Dec 20, 2007

Takathur wasn’t the only team today playing for pride and to avoid a winless season. Al-Masad was in the same boat and it would be interesting to see if they came out firing like Takathur did just a few hours earlier. Al-Masad had only 5 guys EXCLUDING Adeel the league’s leading scorer, which was DEFINITELY a problem against a run-and-gun team like Sharh. It’s also too bad because it would have been fun to see this season’s top scorer, Adeel, match up against last season’s, Sharh’s Hassan.

As many would expect, without Adeel and only 5 players, this game did not start off pretty. Sharh was having their way with Al-Masad who would have been totally blown out of the water if it hadn’t been for the offence of Shazie and Kadva. In fact 6 of the 7 players Sharh dressed for the game got on to the scoreboard while only 3 of Al-Masad’s did. The half ended with Al-Masad down 32-20 behind Luqemar’s 12 points and Hassan’s 10 points. Al-Masad was kept “in the game” behind Shazie’s 8 points and 5 rebounds.

In the 2nd half, Sharh’s Hassan hit back to back 3 pointers and then an acrobatic lay-up at the 5:02 mark. Sharh just wasn’t relenting an opened up a 26 point lead with 12 minutes left in the game. But who would have known how this game ended? Al-Masad was slowly coming back and found themselves down by 15 with 4 minutes to go, and then Kadva hit back to back 3’s with 2 minutes left but Hassan hit a deadly 2 with one minute left. After all the excitement, Sharh pulled out a 64-59 win behind Hassan’s 32 points. Al-Masad was lead by Kadva’s 24 points.
