Nasr too much for Al-Fil in chippy affair May 23, 2007
by Zuhair Fancy

Nasr was favoured to take this match-up and Al-Fil did not help themselves by showing up late and getting no warm-up time. The result was Nasr jumping out to a quick lead as Ibrahim Baig drove the lane hard and got rewarded with trips to the free throw line that he cashed in. Al-Fil was unable to keep the pace and frustration set in and led to Chris Martin getting ejected for arguing. With tempers rising, both teams were warned to be on their best behaviour. The half ended with Nasr leading 25-16.

The second half saw Nasr build upon their lead as Baig continued to finish his chances as he converted break-out passes from Mohammed Kadva and Rami Othman. Emotions rose again late in the game and resulted in technical fouls and an ejection but did not change the outcome of the game as Nasr won by a 56-35 score. Baig led Nasr with 27 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 6 steals in a great all around game. Al-Fil was led by Chris Johnson with 11 points and 5 rebounds.

Looking to next week, Al-Fil is done for the season while Nasr meets last season’s champs in Duha who have struggled this season.
