Shortbenched Sabr grind out a tie with Emaan Nov 15, 2018
by Shehryar Khan

Sabr started the game at a disadvantage with a 2-minute penalty for not submitting their recap last week. As Sabr’s GM’s weren’t present, Emaan wisely chose Ali Murtaza to warm up the penalty box. Surprisingly Mr. Taqi Ahmed joined the force after a long absence, unfortunately Taqi Taqi forgot his rubber ducky (Yellow Jersey) which resulted in another 2-minute minor penalty.

With the absence of Mohammad Bilal, Shaukat “Baba” Khan, Suhaib Shaikh and Abdu Sharkawy, Sabr really needed the bench to step it up. Nearing the end of the first period, Ahmed “Habibi” Ibrahim’s shot from the end zone face-off circle trickled in to give Sabr the lead. Soon later, Emaan’s Rizwan Hassan responded with not just one but two goals back to back to end the period 2-1.

Emaan continued the pressure with great control in the second period. Superstar Zubair Wahid added to the damage with a sniped wrister from the slot. To add onto Sabr’s frustration, they received another penalty for Too Many Men. Shortly after, Emaan’s Azhar Hussain was called for interference. With under 4 minutes left in the game on a powerplay, defensive players Razi “ Razor” Ahmed and Shehryar Khan decided to switch things up and began to create offensive plays out of desperation. Shehryar Khan’s slap shot from outside the blue-line brought some life back into Sabr’s bench. With 36 seconds left in the game and a scuffled face-off win from Razi Ahmed, the call from Wakanda was received by the Black Panther to end the game at a draw.

Yellow is a team to watch out for as most have not faced the full team in action. There are high expectations from the reigning I-slam champions and the playoffs may catch teams by surprise, that is, if, the team can hold up a full attendance. Emaan has 2 remaining games with only 1 win in the bank. They are looking to finish the season off strong.
